TRAVEL SNAPSHOT
Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe known for its rich history and strong cultural identity. Its capital, Kyiv, is filled with historic landmarks and modern energy. Western cities like Lviv offer a mix of European charm and local traditions. The countryside is dotted with farms, forests, and mountains like the Carpathians. Despite recent challenges, the spirit of the people remains proud and resilient.
IMPORTANT INFO
Language: While Ukrainian is the official language of the country, Russian is also very commonly spoke.
Currency: Ukraine uses the Ukrainian hryvnia. As of 2021, $1USD = 26 hryvnia.
Electrical: Ukraine uses a supply voltage of 230 V with a standard frequency of 50 Hz. Outlets use plug types C and F. I recommend using a universal adapter.
Money: Most places, especially in the city, take card. There are also many ATMs around that allow you to withdraw cash. If you are planning on traveling outside city areas, I recommend bringing some cash with you.
Safety: Ukraine is generally safe for travel and solo travel. I never felt unsafe while there. However, it is wise to take precautions.
Weather: I visited Ukraine in the summer and the weather was absolutely beautiful. To avoid crowds, however, you may wish to visit during early summer (May to June) or late summer and beginning of fall (September to October).
